Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
At Nonotuck Resource Associates, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are essential to who we are and how we support people. We believe that honoring each person’s identity, culture, language, values, and lived experience is fundamental to dignity, meaningful relationships, and quality of life.
Our work is rooted in real homes, real communities, and everyday relationships. Because of this, inclusion is not something we approach as a one-time initiative—it is embedded in how we listen, learn, and grow alongside the people we support, their families, caregivers, and our staff.
Our Commitment
Nonotuck welcomes people from all backgrounds and walks of life. We are committed to creating an environment where people feel seen, respected, and supported to live authentic lives and fully participate in their communities.
This commitment begins with listening. From the earliest conversations through ongoing relationships, we strive to understand what matters most to each person—including cultural traditions, language and communication preferences, routines, and identity—and to allow that understanding to guide how supports are shaped and evolve over time.
We also recognize that culturally responsive supports depend on a culturally responsive workforce. Nonotuck is committed to recruiting, training, and supporting staff and caregivers who bring lived experience, cultural awareness, and a shared commitment to respect, kindness, and inclusion.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee
To support this work, Nonotuck established the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEI&B) Committee, which helps guide learning, dialogue, and organizational focus around equity and belonging.
The committee is co-chaired by Nichole Bourke (2022 ADDP DEI & B Award Winner) and Joshua Murray, and includes staff from across the organization. Together, they help foster ongoing education, reflection, and meaningful conversation related to culture, identity, disability, and human rights, while supporting alignment with Nonotuck’s values and mission.
Our Workforce & Community
Nonotuck’s commitment to diversity is reflected in our workforce and caregiving community. We prioritize inclusive hiring and matching practices and continue to build a community of staff and caregivers whose perspectives, language capacity, and cultural knowledge strengthen the relationships at the heart of our supports.
Learning also happens in community. Throughout the year, Nonotuck recognizes and celebrates cultural heritage and awareness events such as Black History Month, Pride Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and more. These opportunities invite reflection, shared learning, and connection across differences.
A Living Commitment
Our work around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is ongoing. We regularly reflect on our practices, listen to feedback, and seek opportunities to grow—ensuring our supports, workplace, and organizational culture remain responsive, respectful, and grounded in belonging.
