Nonotuck Earns CARF Accreditation
Mar 31, 2026, 02:06 PMNonotuck Resource Associates is proud to announce it has been awarded a Three-Year Accreditation for its Host Family/Shared Living Services by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International, the highest level of accreditation from the organization. This designation indicates that an organization has demonstrated substantial conformance to CARF’s rigorous, internationally recognized standards for quality, safety, and service, reflecting a strong commitment to continuous improvement and person-centered care.
From January 12–14, representatives from CARF conducted an in-person review of Nonotuck’s services across the state, reviewing service delivery, nursing and clinical supports, health and safety practices, and information technology systems. Marketing and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B) were also reviewed.
CARF representatives met across the state at Nonotuck’s 11 Program/Service locations, as well as virtually with stakeholders, providers, and people supported.
Nonotuck demonstrated strong overall performance and dedication to quality and personalized services. The report highlights Nonotuck’s positive reputation, dedicated staff culture, personalized shared living model, and continued growth without sacrificing service quality, with stakeholders describing the organization as a “model” provider.
“The surveyors recognized our deep commitment to personalized, person-centered services,” said Nonotuck President and CEO George H. Fleischner. “They heard directly about the high level of satisfaction expressed by the people we support and their families, and they observed the respect we have earned among stakeholders across Massachusetts. That recognition belongs to all of Nonotuck’s employees.”
Overall, Nonotuck is recognized as a high-performing organization, well-positioned for continued success and improvement. This accreditation ensures that people supported by Nonotuck receive safe, high-quality, and personalized support in their homes and communities.
The CARF accreditation process applies sets of standards to service areas and business practices during an on-site survey. Accreditation is an ongoing process, signaling to the public that a service provider is committed to continuously improving services, encouraging feedback, and serving the community. Accreditation also demonstrates a provider’s commitment to enhance its performance, manage its risk, and distinguish its service delivery.
Nonotuck is mandated by MassHealth and Adult Family Care (AFC) programs to maintain accreditation through an external accrediting body. While the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) conducts its own audits of Shared Living services, it accepts CARF accreditation as part of its review process. Most importantly, maintaining CARF accreditation ensures Nonotuck remains licensed to provide AFC services, reinforcing its commitment to accountability and high-quality care.
