Join Us for ‘Home is the Heart of Shared Living: An International Gathering’

Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc. (on behalf of the New York Alliance for Inclusion and Innovation as well as its American and international partners) is excited to announce Home is the Heart of Shared Living: An International Gathering. This brand new event takes place virtually via Zoom on November 3  (10 AM EST to 2:15 PM EST) and November 4 (10 AM EST to 1:40 PM EST), 2022.

The event promises to explore shared living with workshops across multiple disciplines and countries. Shared living can disrupt hierarchical relationships and promote authentic relationships between people with (and without) disabilities. It redefines staff-client boundaries that can promote inequality and frequently offers more stable, predictable, and spontaneous environments than congregate models. It can also increase the control people with disabilities have over their lives and decrease the complexity that comes with congregate settings.

Nonotuck, the NY Alliance and its international partners want to spread the news about shared living, its potential benefits and its contrast with more traditional settings.

Nonotuck CEO/President George H. Fleischner was part of the planning process for the event. “I couldn’t be more excited for this event. Workshops will be presented by people from across the globe who are connected to the transformative service of shared living,” Fleischner says.  “Nonotuck has been an instrumental part of the development of the event; there never has been a conference like this.”

Pre-registration is available on the New York Alliance website.

“(Through shared living) people with a disability experience a real transformation and discover confidence in themselves; they discover their capacity to make choices, and also find a certain liberty and above all their dignity as human beings.”
